How Essex Specialist Cleaning began
Our journey began in the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic — a time when everything felt uncertain, and flexibility became survival. Justine, one of our co-owners, had just been fizzled out of her accounts job of over 10 years. With two young children and the stress of childcare, navigating work became nearly impossible. Catch a cough? Boom — two weeks off. It was a logistical nightmare.
Needing an income and some sanity, Justine stepped in to help a friend with a cleaning job. Five hours of scrubbing later, she was absolutely knackered… but something magical happened. Despite the sore arms and aching feet, she loved it. Really loved it. The satisfaction of transforming a space, the gratitude from the client, the peaceful feeling of making a real difference It didn’t feel like “just a job.” It felt right.
That one clean sparked a whole new journey.
Fast forward to today — not only is Justine still cleaning for some of those very first clients, but she also teamed up with Sarah, her fantastic co-owner (& best friend) to officially launch Essex Specialist Cleaning. What started as a side hustle has grown into a thriving business with a team of four brilliant staff, all sharing the same values, work ethic, and passion for making spaces shine (and lives a bit easier too!).
At the heart of it all? A love for people, pride in our work, and the belief that cleaning is more than just a task — it’s a service that brings comfort, clarity, and calm to every space we touch.
